I've spent
the most of this week attempting to fend off migraines and suffering headaches
and toothache, and therefore was forced to self-impose a ration on my
computer time while completing the production work on Strangehaven
#18. So plenty to catch up on ...

Confirmed this week, I will be doing a double comic shop signing on 17
September at ACE Comics at both their Southend shop and their Colchester
branch. I'll be in Southend at 11.00 am until about 12.30, then quickly
whizzing up the A12 to be at the Colchester shop for 2.00 pm. Sharing
the spotlight will be the incredibly talented Mr. Chronic Fatigue,
creator of the Mixy comic, so if you're in the Essex area, please
pop down to see us.

Joe Gordon of Forbidden Planet dropped me a line to let me know
that the forthcoming Strangehaven: Conspiracies trade paperback
has made the Staff Picks section on their website. Check it out

Received the fifth volume of Black Velvet's Italian language
Strangehaven translation this week, and mighty fine it looks too.
If you haven't seen the great work that Omar and smoky do on it, it's
a lovely package in a prestige-type squarebound format pairing two of
the original comics in each Italian volume.
They also feature an exclusive Italian letters/questions page and sport
new arty-type photographs by yours truly on the back covers.

mark of champions is to win when you play badly
It must be said that newcomers Wigan gave Chelsea a run
for their money this afternoon, very impressive they were and I hope they
manage to survive in the Premiership. But despite a lacklustre performance,
Chelsea's newfound resilience was underlined with Crespo's stunning
last-minute winner.
Mourinho's honesty in evaluating Chelsea's poor performance was
also refreshing.
sad
news all round
The Internet problems that I experienced last week meant that I didn't
hear about the sad and shocking sudden passing of Page 45's Mark Simpson
until a few days ago. This comes just a few weeks after the death of cartoonist
and musician Andy Roberts, both guys in their early 40s, both who
contributed much to the UK comic industry and both who I had met on several
occasions. Both will be very sadly missed.
On Wednesday I heard that my Aunt Doll had died in hospital, aged
92. I had travelled to see her a couple of years ago and had kept in touch
since. She was the last of my dad's siblings, so it was very sad to hear
of her passing, even if she did have a 'good innings.'
