| a weblog of sorts... by gary spencer millidge | |||||
Thursday 10 August 2006 go figure fantasyThe idea of a blog that keeps readers informed of a creator's latest projects sounds great in theory, but of course, in most situations, there is a conflict of interest. For the past few weeks I have been working on something called ‘Draw Fantasy Figures' – a tutorial ‘how-to' book that I have just been commissioned to write. Thing is, this sort of thing can't very well be announced (even in blog form) due to all kinds of considerations until the contracts have been signed and exchanged. Why if the remaining Brother Hildebrant got wind of it before the legalities were finalised, he may very well step in take the job from me, leaving me with egg on my face. In the meantime however, various conversations with the publisher are undertaken, samples and synopses are sent, dummy text is prepared and contents are planned out meticulously in the utmost secrecy. But now it's cast in stone, so I can reveal that I will be writing this spiffing new volume, ably abetted by my illustrative collaborator and artist extraordinaire Mr. James McKay, to be published sometime next autumn.
Still, it could all yet blow up in my face, but if all goes well, regular announcements regarding the book will be made on this very website. Other potential writing gigs are also under consideration by assorted publishers, so I can assure my small but perfectly formed fan base that I have been working hard, even if not all of my efforts are entirely visible. When all said and done though, this will mean a further short delay until I can get back to writing and drawing Strangehaven. So I've reluctantly removed it from my immediate schedule in order to give the next issue the attention it deserves when I have the available time. |
