original card art
raises over £100 for ChildLine
Gary's
original art for the Comics 2001 festival charity deck of cards was successfully
auctioned for over £100 on May 27 the final day of the Bristol UK comics
event.
Reports say that bidding was so intense for the art (shown left) that at one
point, violence broke out between rival bidders.
After the auction, costume queen Elaine Mace admitted to hitting the successful
bidder around the back of the head.
The card was reproduced as part of a limited edition full deck of playing cards,
each illustrated by leading comics artists. All 500 numbered sets were sold by
the end of the first day of the festival.
Full details can be found at the Comics 2001 website.
All monies raised will be donated
to the children's charity ChildLine.
