provided by internationally renowned filmmaker Terry Gilliam.
Alan Moore, creator of Watchmen, From Hell and The League of
Extraordinary Gentlemen has given the project his blessing and full cooperation.
100% of all publisher's net profits and all
creators' royalties from proceeds of this book are to be donated to the following
charities in aid of Alzheimer's disease.
ADI - Alzheimer's Disease International www.alz.co.uk/
AIMA - the Italian Association for Alzheimer's disease www.italz.it/refs/aima/aimad.htm.
The project is the brainchild of Italian comics
guru smoky man who has been devoting a special section of his website
Ultrazine
to Alan Moore and his works since the year 2000. In association with Black
Velvet publisher Omar Martini, smoky planned an Italian language
print version of the project to include the best pieces from the site, before
approaching Millidge with the idea of publishing an English language version.
With Millidge's help the project quickly grew from the initial idea of a 32
page comic-book format magazine to the massive trade paperback tribute that
will be published in May.
Millidge was also one of the people behind another charity comic project, Food
For Thought, published in 1985 under his Flying Pig Enterprises imprint.
It was the first charity comic in aid of Ethiopian famine relief and preceded
Heroes for Hope and Heroes for Hunger by some distance.
Alan Moore: Portrait of an Extraordinary
Gentleman provides a unique and revealing insight into of one of this era's
greatest creative minds, which no fan of Moore's work would want to be without.
The book measures 6 x 8 ½ inches and includes a colour section, with
the cover price set at $14.95 US/£10.99 UK and is scheduled for publication
in May 2003. It has been edited by smoky man and Gary Spencer Millidge, with
the assistance of Omar Martini. Design and production work on the English edition
is also by Millidge.
It will be available in bookstores and comic stores worldwide, or direct from
the millidge.com
