In a surprising turn of events, Gary Spencer Millidge has written and drawn a fourteen page Simpsons comic for the forthcoming US issue of Bart Simpson's Treehouse of Horror.
Each year, the guys at Bongo Comics open the doors to guest creators and allow them to present their own interpretation on the Simpsons in their annual Halloween special. This year Millidge was invited to contribute "a rippingly uproarious and bloodily delirious take on the most famous serial killer of all time," to quote from Bongo's own press release.
Millidge himself said, "It's not often
I'm tempted to do work-for-hire, as it takes away valuable time from my work
on Strangehaven, but I could hardly refuse this opportunity to work with some
of my favourite characters of all time. That and the money's good."
"Matt Groening's The Simpsons in my opinion is by far the best animated
cartoon series ever produced, if not the best TV series ever made. And Bongo
has been reproducing some of the magic in their comic line, especially the Treehouse
series, which has been a delight to see what the unusual choice of creators
would produce for the title."
"This has been a very exciting project to be involved in, and working with
the Bongo staff Terry (Delegeane), Bill (Morrison) and Chris (Ungar) has been
delightful. I also got to poke fun at some of my friends within the Industry,
but you'll have to wait for the comic to find out who."
The full-colour, 48 page Bart Simpson's Treehouse of Horror #9 is due to ship in September from Bongo Comics and will also include comics by Dan Brereton with Ian Boothby: and Paul Dini with Dan Brereton (again) inked by Ted Naifeh. It will retail at $4.99 in the US, available from newstands and comic stores.
