Millidge is clearly in no hurry to move his
story along as his story and his work is all the better for it. The slow unwrapping
of events in a mysterious village has what feels like a natural pace: dwelling
on details, savouring moments. Surely by now action-lovers know to steer clear
of it - while dreamers will already be buying it. (MK)
