February 24 # 13
(UK Twin Peaks Fanzine) January 1996We were recommended STRANGEHAVEN, a new comic by Gary Spencer Millidge, because of its supposed TWIN PEAKS/PRISONER overtones. While there's an element of truth in these comparisons, his story of a young man who finds himself 'stuck' in a small English village after a car smash, brings to mind THE AVENGERS or some of the Hammer studio movies: a skewed version of West-country life where there's always something odd going on down the village hall. I haven't read comics for years, but STRANGEHAVEN's mix of soap opera and murky goings-on proved to be a bit of a page-turner. The artwork is a little up and down: sometimes it looks a bit like an inked-over MY GUY photostory but there are some nice individual frames, especially of non-figure work. Two issues have been produced so far, with a third promised this month. Millidge admits that TP "was a big influence", so you might fancy a look.
