Spencer Millidge is making quiet waves with this self-published black and white
series. It reads like a cross between Twin Peaks and The Prisoner, written by
someone on Valium. A man comes to a small, almost clichéd English village
and finds himself trapped there. All roads lead back into the village, and he
soon becomes enmeshed in the ritualistic lifestyle the villagers lead. It looks
very like Richard Piers Raynor's first self-published effort, The Solthenis:
heavy on detail, with very little attempt to distinguish foreground from background
via the inking, and stiff with photo-referencing. Quirky but commercial. (FJ)
