The prestigious French magazine Bang! published by Beau Arts/Casterman features the Alan Moore biographic, “An Extraordinary Gentleman” by Gary Spencer Millidge in their “superhero special” fifth issue. The strip was originally published in English in the Abiogenesis Press charity publication Alan Moore: Portrait of an Extraordinary Gentleman, and has since been translated into Italian (for Black Velvet’s edition of the Portrait of an Extraordinary Gentleman book) and Croatian (in the first issue of Darko Macan’s Q-Strip magazine).
This French translation is the first time the strip has appeared in full colour and at a hugely increased page size of over 31 x 23 cm.
Bang! #5 also features a new interview with Alan Moore and reprints a Stefano Raffaele illustration from the portrait book, as well as the Moore/Zarate collaboration from It’s Dark In London. In addition, the super-glossy, oversized, squarebound bi-monthly magazine contains translated portions of Ellis/Cassaday’s Planetary and Morrison/Bond’s Invisibles strips alongside showcased work from international creators Peter De Wit, Riad Sattouf, Doyle Hancock and Little Fish, plus a retrospective of The Beast Is Dead creator Calvo.
Bang! #5, Winter 2004, runs an impressive 144 pages and retails at 19,5 euros.
