I’ve once again contributed a piece of artwork to Kev F. Sutherland’s annual Bristol Comics Festival charity event. This year Kev is compiling a set of playing card illustrations by comics artists and I was invited to contribute.
The illustration features Strangehaven characters Alex and Janey on the six of hearts card. The original art is black linework and coloured ink on watercolour board and measures approximately 7 x 10 inches.
You can make a reserve bid at the Comics 2001 website charity auction page for the artwork or many others by some of the world’s leading comics illustrators. The final auction will be held at Comics 2001 on 26 & 27 May 2001.
All monies raised will be donated to the children’s charity ChildLine.
Update: My original art for the Comics 2001 festival charity deck of cards was successfully auctioned for over £100 on May 27, the final day of the Bristol UK comics event.
Reports say that bidding was so intense for the artwork that at one point, violence broke out between rival bidders. After the auction, costume queen Elaine Mace admitted to hitting the successful bidder around the back of the head.
The card was reproduced as part of a limited edition full deck of playing cards, each illustrated by leading comics artists. All 500 numbered sets were sold by the end of the first day of the festival.
